ETH Zurich E4D Scholarship in Switzerland 2024 is a prestigious opportunity for international students. Developing countries are eligible for this scholarship but domestic students are not eligible. This fully funded scholarship is offered for the Doctoral Program in various fields. Outstanding and high-performing students who have the potential to study and improve their skills are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.  All students who wish to study for their Ph.D. degree can participate in this opportunity. ETH Zurich E4D scholarship is provided by the ETH Zurich in Switzerland. It is one of the best universities in the world and the Swiss. Through this scholarship, students will not have to pay to study at ETH Zurich University and they will receive a living allowance. In addition. their travel costs and visa costs are going to be covered as well. Students will have the chance to study in Switzerland, one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and learn about its culture. They can have an international network and will be staying in a friendly environment.

Eligibility criteria


To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to comply with the following requirements:

  • Must hold a completed and recognized Master’s degree from a university
  • Have a score of at least TOEFL level C1 / TOEFL 95-​120.
  • Be nationals of lower-​ and lower-middle-income countries on the external pageDAC-​list of the OECD (students from upper-middle-income countries and high-income countries are not eligible)
  • Students must be accepted by the ETH MAS GCSD program (interviews take place in May)

Benefits of E4D Scholarship at ETH Zurich University 2024


Students will have the following benefits if they win this scholarship:

  • Economy roundtrip ticket (max. 1’500 CHF)1
  • Visa fees
  • Living allowance for 10 months of the duration of the study programme (September 2024 to February 2025 and November 2025 to February 2026): 2’200 CHF per month
  • The living costs for the duration of the Junior Project Assignment (JPO) (March 2025-​October 2025) will be covered by a separate stipend granted to all participants of the MAS GCSD programme by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC)

  • 1–2-​page application letter, stating the motivation to attend the programme and the impact on the candidate’s career development and beyond.
  • Two recommendation letters and they must be sent to the ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship office (e4d@sl.ethz.ch) directly through the person who provided the reference letter (and not the candidate).

Application deadline for ETH Zurich E4D scholarship 2024


The application process has two steps:

  • Application to the MAS GCSD programme (independent from the scholarship application).
    • Applications that meet all of the formal requirements are evaluated by NADEL in a two-​stage process. First, the academic qualifications, experience in international cooperation, personal motivation, and capability for a career in international cooperation are assessed based on the written application. Second, a select group of applicants are invited for interviews in May 2024. The interviews will be conducted in English.
  • Application to the ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship Programme.

Note: 

  • Applicants will only be regarded for an ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship if accepted to the ETH MAS GCSD program.
    Since the two admission and selection processes run in parallel, the MAS GCSD program office will share the admission letter confirming the admission to the study program directly with the ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship office.
  • The application must be submitted online. Applications submitted via e-mail cannot be considered.
  • The scholarship scheme is competitive.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered. However, the language certificate can be submitted until April 1 if the rest of the application documents are received by the 29 February deadline.
